Here's What You Need:
8 cups chopped peeled tart apples (about 3-1/2 pounds)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Here's What You Do:
In a Dutch oven, combine all of the ingredients. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 30-40 minutes or until the apples are tender, stirring occasionally.
Remove from the heat; mash apples (a potato masher works well) until sauce achieves desired consistency. Serve warm or cold.
It takes some time to chop and peel the apples, but otherwise this is so easy. Again I could just buy applesauce, but I know exactly what my daughter is getting. I know exactly how much sugar is in the applesauce. It takes more time than just buying a jar, but it is healthier. Who doesn't love healthier? Plus, Addie loves this applesauce, and isn't that the point?
