How 'Bout Them Reads: Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1)

Okay, so maybe I'm not currently choosing the most challenging books. Or even the most well-written books. But I'm choosing books that I am definitely enjoying. I had once before read a few of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, but I hadn't completed the series and it had been a long time since I had read them. So when Borders were closing their doors and all their books were on sale, I was able to get a few of these books but not all of them. But for Christmas, Rob completed my collection, so now I turn to these books as a fun, enjoyable, mindless reading.

Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress at a bar in Louisiana and she comes off as a completely normal girl except for the fact that she can read minds. That fact that made her stand out and people think she's crazy. She doesn't mind much because she has learned to keep her guard up which keeps her out of everyone else's minds. But what she really wants is to meet a vampire and finally one walked into the bar and sat in her section. Sookie and the vampire, Bill, started a simple friendship when Sookie saves his life. But soon they are interconnected and have formed a relationship. She starts learning about vampires and how their own society works. And becomes farther interested when one of her coworkers ends up dead.

Not a lot of murder happens in their small town, but two have happened far too close to each other. Mystery surrounds these deaths and Sookie begins to suspect that she might be next..

Like I said mindless reading. Did I not mention the vampire part? No, I'm not obsessed with vampires. I enjoyed the Twilight series (although I still think she should have ended up with Jacob, who I like so much better). This is a different kind of vampire series. It is a bit lighter. It is actually much more supernatural with more creatures. It's just a fun read and one day I'll read my "smart" books again but for now I'm just going to enjoy reading. : )
