How 'Bout Them Reads: Black Hills

I'm pretty much just going straight down my bookshelves to pick out books these days. I'm having trouble focusing. Pregnancy thing, maybe? And they are all books I want to read, so why go through the lengthy process of trying to figure out which book to read next, when I can just pick up the next one on the shelf. Just makes it easier and lately I'm all about easier.

And as you can tell the next book on the shelf was this one by Nora Roberts. The Black Hills. It is a bit of a lengthy book so it took me a little longer than most Nora Roberts books to get through, but it also took me a couple chapters to really get into. But as I got more into the book, I became more interested and wanted to find out what happened.

Lil and Coop had been friends for years. And as they got older, their relationship turned into more than just friendship. But years and distance made their relationship hard to deal with. Coop lived as cop in New York, while Lil opened Chance Wildlife Refuge back in South Dakota. Their lives were worlds apart. But suddenly they find their worlds are colliding again when Coop comes back to South Dakota to take over his grandparent's business and farm when his grandfather breaks his leg. Their worlds collide further than everything that Lil holds dear, including her own life is threatened. Someone is hunting her and seeking to destroy her refuge and life. Now the hunt begins to find the man who can disappear into the land and be seen only when he wants to be.

This book overall was pretty good. Not my favorite in the Nora Roberts books. I like the character of Lil but at times I found her a little annoying. She wouldn't just let go and let her heart out. Granted, that's often how it is in real life that there was people who just aren't good at opening their hearts. But it was beginning to get frustrating that throughout the entire book she was very closed off. Coop was a smart character but there wasn't too much depth to him other than things happened to him in New York that changed his life and he was back and wasn't going to let anything get in the way of having Lil back in his life. They were an interesting duo. The supporting characters were fairly interesting, but everyone seemed a bit closed off half the time or were spending their time in denial.

I can't say I would necessarily recommend this book. But I did enjoy it. I do tend to enjoy Nora Roberts book though.
