Going Back

Maybe a better title for this post would be 'Going Modified.’ What am I going back to? Going back to my old diet? Going back to my healthier GD diet?

It’s been a couple weeks since Addison was born, so therefore it has been a couple weeks since I have
been back to my regular diet. Honestly, part of me truly believes I was better off with my gestational diabetes diet. When I was on my GD diet I had to watch what I ate very carefully and I also had to be careful to not miss a single meal or snack.

After she was born I could immediately return to a regular diet, which was awesome. The problem: going back has been overwhelming and not completely successful. Maybe I need to go back from going back. Wait, what? Having a newborn is exhausting and there are times during the day when Rob is gone that I barely get a chance to get breakfast or lunch. Addison often decides she wants to be held constantly or that she is going to be crazy fussy and won’t be happy unless we are rocking, so instead of eating I rock [sometimes all day if I have to].

So basically my eating habits are seriously lacking. Going back to my regular diet has not been such a good thing after all. So now I’m “going back” to my original statement: I’m going modified. Instead of going strictly on a gestational diabetes diet or going back to my regular diet without any restrictions, I hope to merge the two diets and create a healthier diet. After all Addison is still taking in what I eat and if I want her to have a taste/liking to broccoli then I have to start eating more broccoli.

My point? My food/diet struggles aren’t over yet. Maybe they are truly only just beginning. I now have to make sure I make time to eat and find healthy things to eat. Yes, newborns are exhausting but she needs me to find time and those healthy snacks/meals as well. I had no idea that going back to my regular diet from that dreaded gestational diabetes diet would be so difficult. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m not a huge fan of food (except Carrabba’s. I really like Carrabba’s).

So wish me luck as I do my best to go modified!
