I am not an overly social person. So the fact that I'm involved in a playgroup surprises me some days. I'm so thankful that I found this group (read about it here). We have had a great time with the play dates, getting out and trying new things, going to new places. It's been awesome. But when a night out with just the moms came up I was a little hesitant. I had never had a night out with the ladies. In fact I didn't really have a group of girl friends growing up. I had a few select for the girls that I was friends with but not a whole group of different, interesting women.
So this was definitely a new experience. And for that reason, I was nervous. Without the safety of having my kid along with me, I was having doubts about the social situation and if I was even interesting. Rob continues to insist that I'm more interesting than I give myself credit for, but I had doubts because of my past and how I don't exactly have a lot of friends to prove his theory. I mean he's my husband so he has to say that. It was in our vows. {Kidding!}
So I debated back and forth for awhile if I was going to go. And I wish I could say that I finally decided that I was going to go because I knew I needed to go and get out. Yeah, that definitely helped make up my mind but it wasn't the sole reasoning. I couldn't figure out what to feed us that night and I didn't want to figure it out. So I decided I would go out so Rob and Addison would do their own thing. I was excited about going through. I was excited to go out and about. But I was also incredibly nervous.
But I got into my car and headed over there. And immediately it was natural and relaxed. And relaxed was exactly what I needed. I couldn't remember the last time I truly relaxed. It had been a long time since I had not worried about anything. I didn't have to be listening for Addison. I didn't have to figure out what to eat. I didn't have to cook or clean. I could just relax and enjoy myself.
I ended up surprising even myself by staying about two and half hours. Time just got away from me and without having to worry about keeping a schedule with Addison, I could not clock watch. It was nice. It's amazing how a night of laughing and relaxing can be refreshing. It was exactly what I needed and I look forward to more nights like that one.

So awesome that you were able to find a group of friends to hang out with. I've found myself becoming less social the older I get. Or maybe I'm just too busy with the husband and kid. lol
ReplyDeleteHappy for you!
I have never been all that social so it was definitely a change for me. There are definitely times when I just love being at home with the hubs and the kiddo, but it is nice to get out and have other women to talk to. I didn't realize I was missing it until I went out and experienced it.
