On the Kid's Table: Homemade Wheat Thins

For the record, I didn't make this recipe. I had every intention of making it but Rob decided that he was hungry one day and all the sudden he was making it. Weird, right? I did take pictures and help out when he needed help but otherwise this was all him.

Brought To You By: Super Healthy Kids

Here's What You Need:
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
8 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Here's What You Do:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Whisk together dry ingredients. Cut the butter in pastry cutter or fork. Put the vanilla in the water, and slowly add the water and stir until you form a dough. If it's still too dry, add up to 3-4 tablespoons more of water. Cut your dough in half, and roll out half at a time. Cut the dough into desired shapes and arrange on a cookie sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Watch carefully, if your oven runs hotter it will be done quicker!

The truth was that they looked the same uncooked and cooked. I'm still a little unsure if they were suppose to look different. Regardless of how they looked, they didn't exactly taste great. They are homemade wheat thins and are missing all those preservatives and such that give them more tastes. They were just a bit bland. But maybe there's way we can fix there. Perhaps add some seasonings of our own? I don't know. I'll have to do some thinking and figure out what we might add to improve them. They were easy to make, even if I wasn't the one doing the making, and the ingredients are all ones that I have around the house, which is definitely nice.

Both Addie had no issue with them, but of course she eats everything. Rob was all about adding more flavors next time too. But they weren't bad and probably a heck of a lot healthier. Although I should warn you that cooking like this, making things homemade without preservatives and such takes some getting used to. So be creative and enjoy!

    1. We were disappointed too. I'm thinking of trying to add more seasoning and maybe find another recipe and I'll be sure to share if I find something good!
