"He Stole My Heart, So I Stole His Last Name"

We have had quite a run these last three years. I guess it's time to call the whole thing of. Anyone get it?

Probably not. It's been three years and some of you weren't even at our wedding (not because I didn't want to invite you, just to be clear). For those of you who weren't there and those who somehow don't remember (crazy!) our first dance song was 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off' by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. A weird first dance song but hey we're a little weird.

Speaking of weird...

Ain't that the truth?

It's definitely been a heck of a three years. And in those three years we have learned some things about marriage.

Marriage is rock'em, sock'em robots.

Marriage is compromise. He gets ten more minutes of video games and I get a back rub.

Marriage is watching Star Trek and The X-Files and Fringe. And occasionally tricking your husband into watching Gilmore Girls and Charmed.

Marriage is killing a spider out of panic and hiding the corpse under something until your husband gets home to dispose of the remains.

Marriage is washing your husband's uniforms, towels, clothes, and wallet.

Marriage is discovering a body-size hold in the mattress that you roll into all night long then turning the mattress while he's in the bathroom giving him the hole.

Marriage is resisting the urge to peel the skin from your husband's back after he has a sunburn because it freaks him out.

Marriage is trusting your husband to go with you to the grocery store to help out and while you are actually shopping, he picks up 8 weeks worth of energy drinks.

Marriage is hiding chocolate in the back of the fridge from everyone so you don't have to share. (Hey that's parenthood too!)

Marriage is asking your husband to sew the nose back on your daughter's favorite toy because the likelihood of anything staying together that you sew is so slim that it's non-existent.

Marriage is lying flat out that your husband should come upstairs because your kid who just woke up from a nap really wants to see him when you really don't want to clean the poopy diaper then making a skillful exit.

We have really learned a lot the last three years. But we all know that marriage is actually none of those things but at the same time it is all those things. It is those moments you have together. It's the times you laugh. It's the times you struggle. It's the frustration. It's the exhaustion. It's the endless support. It's the limitless love.

And I am so glad that I get to travel those all those things, good and bad, with my best friend and love of my life.

Happy 3 years. Here's to 3 more...wait, that's not right...

  1. Marriage is knowing that your wife is flat out lying that you should come upstairs because your kid who just woke up from a nap really wants to see you when you really she doesn't want to clean the poopy diaper.

And also, the energy drinks were on sale all 8 weeks worth of them.
