The One with the Girl Who Turns Two in a Day

Just like what I said yesterday, I can't believe my girl is turning two. It doesn't seem possible. She is still my tiny newborn with big blue eyes and a toothless grin. Sometimes I close my eyes and think that. Then I open my eyes to a beautiful two year old with big blue-green eyes and a huge smile and beautiful laugh.

It has been quite a year for Addison. Who knew that the second year of her life would be so exciting?! Most of you have been following our story and we appreciate all the kind thoughts, prayers, and support. It has been a long road getting to where we are. She still has a ways to go, but I couldn't be happier with where she is.

But overall this has been a major year for my little girl....

+ She started out second year of her life at 26 pounds 4 ounces and 31.75 inches long.

+ About a week or so after her birthday, we were done with formula and bottles. That was an exciting yet sad day. It meant my girl was growing up but formula is expensive so I was happy I wasn't having to pay it anymore. Plus bottles are a pain to wash.

+ On October 27, she cruised around the ottoman for the first time. I was thrilled. She had crawled late (just a month before), so I hoped that walking wouldn't be far behind.

+ On December 27, she surprised us both when she climbed up the stairs like it was nothing and she had been doing it for months. But of course she hadn't.

+ In January, she was sick for the first time in her year and a couple months life. It was just a basic cold which she kindly shared with both me and Rob. But that didn't stop you from figuring out how to climb back down the stairs at the same time.

+ At the beginning of February, she stood alone for a few seconds for the very first time.

+ But that solo standing was short-lived because it was right around the end of February and beginning of March, when she went through a recession. Addison stood standing or walking or having any interest in either. She stopped talking other than 'dada.' She became scared to go down the stairs and refused to do it. She was afraid to get water poured on her in the bath. My sweet girl was no longer the same, progressing girl. Something was wrong and honestly, it scared me.

+ We went to a neurologist and got a MRI scheduled to figure out what was going on. Luckily, she did start progress again. By April, she was trying to walk again. She was walking some holding on to one hand. She even took the first steps by herself at 19 months. It was only two steps but we were over-the-moon excited.

+ In June (21 months), she was still progressing and still walking. But we had the MRI we had scheduled months ago. It was a horrible experience and I never want to sedate her again. The results were good and bad. There was no immediate problems and everything looked good overall. But there were two spots in her optical lobes that suggest a regression but nothing concrete. So good and bad. After all that, we started working with Infant Toddler Services on her language and motor skills.

+ We continued to work on her walking and by August 6 (22 months), she was a walker. She was moving around freely by herself. It was one of the best days of our parenting lives. It was just about a week later that she stood up in the middle of the room by herself which was another amazing first for us.

+ The language is still progressing, but baby steps. She is already making great progress.

I told you it's been a heck of a year. All we need is to get her talking and potty trained then we can send her off to college.
