Love the Newborn, Hate the Stage

I could probably end this post right there since the title pretty much says it all. I love my baby. But I seriously hate the stage. It's awful. And exhausting. And frustrating.

I definitely love holding my baby. But I get tired of having to hold him all day without him ever wanting to be put down.

I love the cooing and little talking. But the scream crying wears on the nerves in every possible way.

I love my baby's smile. Wait, there's no bad there.

I love how much my baby needs me now because soon enough he will be old enough and doesn't need me quite the same. But the constant needing is exhausting.

I love the way my baby smells. But it's a pain to give a newborn a bath, plus the screaming through bath time makes it a total drag.

I love baby wearing. But I hate baby wearing.

I love how uncomplicated feeding is because all he eats is a bottle. But the constant feedings and the middle of the night feedings and making bottles are annoying. Plus does anyone actually love washing bottles?!

I love not having to entertain all day and always have to be doing something. But I hate how there is nothing to do with a newborn, plus who doesn't love a kid who can entertain himself.

I love sleeping all day because boy is that nice sometimes. But sleeping is erratic and even though you know and he knows he needs to sleep he refuses to sleep.

Truthfully I probably have a few more things on why I hate the newborn stage. But yet I'll do it all over again - in a couple years. Luckily for my kids I love them even though I hate the stage. And luckily for me, they grow out of this stage. Until then I'm going to try and focus on those things that are good. Then take a deep breath. Try to take a nap. Pass the newborn off to the hubs when he gets home from work. And try to enjoy my baby boy while he's still a baby boy.

Comment below: What are you favorite and least favorite parts of the newborn stage?

  1. I love how much a newborn sleeps. Now that my daughter is 3 I wish she would sleep as much haha. I disliked the poop explosions haha!!

    1. I remember when my daughter was a newborn thinking that she was always sleeping and it was boring. Then when she started taking less naps I remember wishing she was taking all those naps again.

  3. So cute. Both of my kids were adopted as toddlers, so I missed out on those baby moments. :(
