Unpacking: The Dining Room

Well, I'm back with another 'Unpacking' post. Slowly but surely you're seeing the house. It's better than nothing, right? Gotta take what you can get sometimes. Okay, so just give a pregnant girl a break - there's been a lot going on. Anyway, today is all about the dining room!

A dining room was one of my requirements when looking for a house. I wanted a room just devoted to dining where we could get a nice, big table and have room for family dinners and not feel so cramped. Maybe that comes from being at the apartment where we were just so tight on space with our only table in the kitchen, but whatever the case was I wanted a dining room. It was never going to be a deal breaker if we loved the house but it had no dining room, but it just so happens that we chose a house that had a beautiful dining room.

When Rob and I moved in together, we had two kitchen tables. His broke down and mine didn't, so naturally we used mine and just broke his apart and tucked it away. After much debate, we decided that we wanted to keep the table because it would be a good stand-in until we could get a real dining room table someday. And I'm glad we did. Although it didn't take us long to get a real table.

And this is where I would normally insert a picture, but unfortunately I never took a picture of the room with that table and chairs in it. So you'll just have to use your imagination this time.

After finding out that we didn't have to pay anymore rent (Yay!) we made the decision to buy some furniture. Primarily we were looking for living room furniture because coming from an apartment we were tight on space, so we didn't have a lot. But now with a house we had plenty of room to get an actual nice set and have plenty of room for everyone to sit. So we headed out to Nebraska Furniture Mart. I won't go into detail about the living room set we chose - that's a different day. But we decided since we were there that we would go ahead and look at the dining room tables while we were there. We looked around and most of them were either too fancy or too country for our taste. But one caught our eye. And we instantly both agreed on it. But we also decided a dining room set would come a different time, a different day.

However, I couldn't stop thinking about it, so the next day we looked it up online and found that it also had a matching sideboard to go with it (which was exactly what I was wanting). And we decided to go ahead and get it then. So we spent more money and ordered a nice dining room table and sideboard for the dining room.

And let me just say that I'm happy we did it. I love the new table. It definitely looks better than the Kmart put-together table we had before (makes me feel all grown-up!).

But like most rooms in the house, I'm not done dreaming about what can be done in here. If you look at the picture again, you'll notice that there is nothing on the walls. Not done on purpose, it just so happens that I have no idea what I actually want to put on the walls. I have a few ideas floating around, but nothing I have decided is what I want without a doubt. Okay, so maybe I really don't have any ideas...yet. But I'll figure something out eventually, and until then I'm taking suggestions...
