Stella and the Kid

We have a cat named Stella. She's weird. Often annoying. Extremely quirky. Four-legged, hairy, and slightly over-weight.

We have a daughter named Addison. She's weird. Often funny. Extremely quirky. Two-legged, little hair, and finally a little chubby.

Both are important, though not equally so. So do they get along?

Good question. Addison doesn't really know Stella exists, but you gotta give her a break. She is only 3 months old. Stella, however, is extremely aware of Addison. No worries there has been no smothering attempts. In fact, there has been a completely disliking and disinterest in Addison.

However, Stella is more than aware of Addie when one of us is holding her and Stella wants to cuddle. But that seems to be the only time Stella actually wants to cuddle. And she only goes to the person who is actually holding Addison, otherwise she doesn't want much from us (other than food and a clean litter box....speaking of which, I'll be right back....).

Stella and I have been having some issues as of late every morning. I like to call the little game we play: Drench the House while Stella Runs Around Crying Loudly and Trying to Break into a Closed Room.

Every morning when I get up, Addison is most of the time still sleeping. So when I sneak out of the bedroom, I close the door behind me and go to the living room where I have breakfast and listen for her to wake on the baby monitor. Stella then begins crying loudly and constantly. She wants into the bedroom where she spends her days sleeping under the bed, and even more she wants the radio static (Addie's white noise) turned off - hurts her ears maybe?

Stella learned that she can push open the bedroom door, which I hear her do then she proceeds to walk in and continue to cry now in front of the port-a-crib where Addie is still sleeping away. I take the spray bottle, sneak up and spray her. She darts out of the room and into the sitting room. She keeps low but still cries. I spray her again and she runs to the dining room, where she is quiet at least briefly. So I return to the living room to continue my breakfast. She then creeps down the stairs semi-quietly then hides behind the love-seat where I can't see her and starts crying again. Can't see her then can't spray her.

I get up and spray her then she takes off. She goes somewhere and is quiet for a bit before I hear her break back into the bedroom and the game continues until Addison wakes up and the radio gets turned off.

One day this game will be discontinued once Addie is in her own room, but for now Stella pretty much hates the current setup. She hates that she's locked out of our bedroom each night. She hates the radio static. She hates mornings where she isn't immediately allowed into our bedroom to sleep under the bed. She hates getting sprayed in the face every single morning (I hate doing it too - mostly just because I'm doing it for a reason).

So do they get along? Ask me again. Addison doesn't know Stella exists and Stella currently doesn't care for Addison. Maybe one day they'll be friends. Maybe...
