A Whole New Place to Sleep

Doesn't it look friendly? Doesn't it look homey? Doesn't it look like the kind of place you might want to sleep at night?

Could you tell Addie that?

Kidding...mostly.

After almost four months of sleeping in the port-a-crib in our room, Addie is now sleeping in her own room. We decided it was an important move and definitely time.

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a bit sad. My girl has been right there in our room for her whole life. I could hear every sound. I could see her - easy access right there in our room for peeking. Plus, this means she is growing up.

But don't get me wrong, I'm excited. She is basically sleeping through the night now (about 9:30 or 10:00 to about 5:30 or 6:00 then back down until 9:00 - not bad). The risk of SIDS has gone way down. Plus I sleep better because I no longer hear every single sound. I can use my electric toothbrush as an electric toothbrush. I can even turn on a light in my own room.

The first night I was expecting to be a rough night, but it was actually surprisingly good. We fought to get her down in the first place but we did the night before when she was still in our room, so I think that had more to do with the 4-month wakeful period than the new location. But then she went out with after a feeding and a couple rounds of 'Colors of the Wind.' I did make Rob go in and check on her a couple time and of course she was fine and fast asleep.

All was good until about 1:30. I wasn't completely surprised when she woke up - like I said I expected a rough night. We went in there and was surprised by what we found. Her leg was hanging out of the crib and her swaddle blanket was over her face. She got herself turned in her sleep and somehow got her leg trapped between the bars of the crib (loosely trapped, but she's not quite four month and not exactly able to get it out herself just yet, and while trying to free herself she got the swaddle pulled up to her face. Not exactly reassuring considering how worried I was about her being in her own room for the first time.

We got her settled and back to sleep until her normal time. And since we have struggled with getting her to sleep (it's a 2 hour struggle by the way - no kidding - sometimes it takes long - darn you 4-month wakeful period!) but otherwise she has been sleeping like normal.

Have I mentioned my girl is a rock star? Okay, so the truth is that the move was probably harder on me than her, so I guess that makes me the rock star...
