Our Disney Favorites

We are a Disney family. We love Disney movies. We have gone through and watched pretty much all the classic Disney movies that I grew up watching. And of all those movies Addison has decided on her favorites. Now mind you I didn't chose these as her favorites. She chose these. They were the movies that she would laugh at and get totally engrossed in. They were the movies that she would pick out of the shelf (it sounds crazy but whenever we watch a movie, I give her the case so she knows what we are watching and now she will go over to the movies and pull down her favorites and bring them to me. And they are in different locations every day but she knows which ones they are. This happens every day.)

So what are our favorites? You can probably guess that Beauty and the Beast is one of them. That was her first favorite and a great old standby. She still loves it. How could you not love it? Belle loves books, she gives up everything to save her father, she sees pasts looks and see into the heart of the beast, she is kind. Yes, if you think too much about the story, there are some major questions. But it is all around a good movie. And one that I don't mind watching, which is good since I have seen it probably a couple hundred times now.

Our next favorite is Tangled. And this one is funny. If you have never seen this one then you definitely should, even if you don't have kids. As an adult, I enjoy this one. Flynn Rider is funny and charming. Addie loves him. In fact for a long time every time he would come on the screen, she would say dada and get excited. Apparently she either though Flynn Rider was her dad or that he looked like her daddy. She does it less now but it was pretty cute. Rapunzel is also a charming character. She has a simple dream but one that took her to places she never imagined. And we are all about encouraging to follow dreams - although probably not in the same way that she did by running off with a strange man you just met, but at least she took a frying pan.

Our newest favorite is Mulan. This one surprised because it is a little dark and the bad guys are a little scary. But Addie laughs all the way through this one. This is another one that I don't mind because the character of Mulan is a strong character. She is trying to find her place and doesn't just try to be what everyone wants her to be. She sacrifices everything to save her dad (that's seems to be a trend). She doesn't just go along with what society tells her. She is much more than that. By the way, Mulan was a real person and really did go to war in place of her father. Look it up. However, Disney's version is history always has more song and dance than the real deal. So you should check out the real story.

Other movies just don't hold her interest the same. She'll watch them off and on for awhile depending on the movie, but mostly she's not interested. Usually when I try to turn on something else, she goes over the movies and pulls down her favorites and brings them to me. Silly girl. So for the most part we stick with the favorites. I'm not arguing with a 16 month old about which movie to watch. I'm not crazy.
