I Did Some Reading

I have spent my whole life reading. As long as I can remember I have always been in the middle of a book or starting a book. There is always a book on my nightstand or in my purse. I love to read. So upon discovering Goodreads a few years ago I stated keeping track of all that I read and making Reading Challenges for myself each year.

In 2012, I read 52 books in a year. I'm pretty proud of that achievement. But I had a little more free time because I didn't become a mom until the end of that year and the truth was that she was just a couple months old and did a lot of sleeping, so while breastfeeding or while she was sleeping I did a lot of reading. Last year, 2013, I read 15 books. I decided that now that my kid was older I would have less free time. I was right about that, plus after coming off a year where I read so much I didn't want to try to take on so many books again. So when this year came around I couldn't decide how many books I wanted to read. I now had a toddler who was active and kept me pretty busy, but at the same time she played very well independently and almost preferred it most of the time, which left me some reading time. I still didn't want to over-burden myself so I chose 15 books again. Within the first couple months I realized that was not enough. I was reading much faster than that. So I upped it to 26 books.

So now the first of August, I'm completed my 26 book Reading Challenge. I'm not done reading, of course. But am I going to change my Reading Challenge goal again at this point? No probably not. I'll just keep reading instead.

The 26 books I read this year have mostly been books I have read before including the last few books of the Harry Potter series (I read the first books last year - I like to reread them every couple of years). I read some new books including Justice for Sara by Erica Spindler and My Life in France by Julia Child. There were definitely books I liked better than others. The last book I read was quite possibly one of the worst I have ever read. It took me way to long to get through it and I was glad to see it go into the Goodwill box.

So that's what I've been up to. I've been reading. I'll just keep on reading.
