It's a Window Thing, Part II

Back in June, I posted Part I of this story, all about deciding we needed new windows, looking for companies, and making our decision. And for the last month plus some weeks we have been waiting. We have been waiting for the call that our windows are in and ready to be installed. It was felt like it was taking forever for the call to schedule our installation. We finally decided that we wanted to check on the status ourselves and as Rob was even looking up the number, he received a call from Cornerstone to schedule that very same installation.

We got it scheduled as soon as possible, which first didn't work for us so we had to move it a few days later. And although that meant I was house-ridden for a couple of days, it was well worth it. What's today? Wednesday? Which means the windows were installed two days ago and finished yesterday. So they are stinkin' new. And pretty stinkin' awesome!

Monday morning was a bit of a rough start since they were running a little late. But they didn't hesitate once they got here. There were introductions, where do I want them to start, and away they went. The night before we took down as many blinds as we could and finished taking down blinds in bedrooms and ground floor levels the next morning, so we would be all ready to go upon their arrival. Rob was off at work and Addison and I were waiting for their arrival. Their arrival seemed to cause quite the stir around the house. Stella went running and hid. Addison wanted to stand at the front door and watch. She was interested in what they were doing but by standing in front of the door she would no doubt be in the way. I ended up putting in Princess and the Frog so she could relax and be out of the way.

There's not much to say about their work. They were quick. They started at about 9:30 Monday morning and finished up around 4:00. They started in Addison's bedroom and the one next to hers, so I could get her down for a nap that day. They did a window at a time and clean up after themselves once they finished. There were three men, one that worked outside and two that did the work inside. They were definitely efficient. By the end of the first day, all the windows were put in. They asked to store some of their supplies in our garage, which I agreed to and they were done for the day.

Tuesday, they were here earlier and started closer to 8:30. On Tuesday, however, they mainly worked outside. There were final touches along the outside. They also went through and finished cleaning up inside, took the stickers off all the windows, and trimmed a couple of windows they had left. On Tuesday they were finished a little before 4:00. I signed paperwork, wrote a check, and that was that. The windows were officially done.

It's weird to finally have new windows. We have been talking about new windows since we moved into this house. We have been saving a ridiculous amount for these windows since we moved into this house. And to finally be done is amazing and a bit surreal. We can finally start saving up for another project now, but that's a different story.

So you ready to see them? You ready for the horrible pictures? It's surprising how hard it is to get a decent picture of windows. You know, the whole back-lit thing. It's really quite frustrating. But whatever, I took pictures anyway.

Oh and what's even more awesome is that giant window in the middle (we have another one that size in our bedroom) is no longer just a picture window. It is a double-hung. We can open it. I am so excited for some nice fall days when we can open our windows and feel the breeze. Heck, I'm excited that all our windows open now.

You want to see the front. So being the genius that I am I didn't take a full house picture from the front, but that doesn't mean I don't have at least one shot of the front of the house.

So what do you think? Definitely gives the place a face-lift. But who cares about the face-lift? I love that our old wooden windows are gone. We have new energy-saving, awesome, they-all-open windows! We love them already. It's hard to believe that we actually have new windows! Two years, one month, two weeks, three days after we moved in. Can you tell I'm excited? It's amazing what you get excited about once you become an adult, have a family, get a house, and such. Once upon a time it might have been going to the movies (although I do love me a good date night to the movies), but now it is things such as new windows. I'm not a dork, I swear!
