Five Things I'm Good At

Not that long along I did a post about Five Things I'm Bad At. Well, now I'm back with something more positive. It's all about five things I'm good at.

1. Cooking -- Not to toot my own horn but I've gotten pretty good at this particular skill. My husband is really happy that I got so good at this skill. I'm actually pretty okay with me gaining this skill and becoming as good as I have. I decided I wanted to learn to cook about four years ago and even started another blog in hopes it would keep me accountable to actually cooking every day (if you want to read my pitiful attempt at a food/cooking blog, then feel free to check out here. Although I will advise you that it's really not so great.) But apparently that didn't happen. I really learned how to cook some time after Addison was born and I haven't stopped since. You can read about my one year and three year anniversary, but apparently I was worried about writing about my two year anniversary. Regardless of whether I write on the anniversary of learning to cook or not, I am proud of what I have accomplished and the cook I have become.

2. Tricking Addie into doing something she doesn't want to do -- I think Rob admires this skill. Sometimes I don't even know how I do it. But I have a way of convincing Addie that something she doesn't want to do will be fun and she should do it. Of course that magic mommy mojo has faded a bit as she has become a stubborn two year old, but I still have a little bit of skill in that area that others don't.

3. Organizing -- I like things in order. I like to have control. I find it even more amazing since I have such a scattered brain. Maybe it's because of my scattered brain that I am so good at organizing. If I don't keep things organized then I would be all over the place more than I already am. I have a notebook that I keep everything together and I would be lost without it.

4. Observing and remembering -- I spent a lot of time when I was younger watching and listening so I could create stories later. I liked to imagine what other people's lives were, what they did and who they were. I just paid attention. And I remembered. I have been keeping journals since I was in 6th grade, so I would write everything down. So I would remember the until I could write them.

5. Finding books -- It's a weird skill I know, but handy when you want a good book. I think in all my years of picking books I have only picked a few duds. Yes I do judge books by the cover. Some of my books are chosen based on the author, but many are not. If you look at my books the majority of them that are not chosen based on the author, have a person or part of a person on the front.

I'm not really good at a lot of things. Honestly this list was a lot harder to put together than the list of things I'm bad at. I guess it's easier to get down on yourself and see all of your failings before seeing the things you are good at. Maybe we all need to take more time to look at what we do excel at and think about those things and not the things we struggle with. Just some food for thought.
