Cable Go Bye Bye

Years ago we decided to get rid of cable. We didn't have cable for a good couple of years, finding that we just didn't want to watch it and with other services available we just didn't need it. But years went by and we decided to get it. We switched out services and ended up getting a deal that involved cable. I definitely was kind of glad to have it back with being able to watch the Royals again, among other things.

While we were at the old house we ended up switching from U-verse which we had for a very long time to Google Fiber and we loved. We liked the service better and even more we liked the price better. But when we moved into this house, we learned that Google Fiber wasn't in the area so we had to go back to U-verse. We didn't love it, but it was the option so we went with it.

However we it always goes, the price that we were paying each month just kept creeping up. Every month it was just a little higher than the month before and we did not like where we were heading. So we started talking about the options. Unlike when we first dropped cable, there were plenty of options for live TV options, but the only one we seriously discussed was Hulu Live TV. Partly because I could get my Royals, and we had Hulu.

We also ended up bumping up our internet to faster speeds for actually not that much. The faster internet just made sense with Rob still working from home and also now that our live TV is coming through the internet, it all works better. Plus we got HBO Max with it, so that's fun.

So all in all, we are saving about $80-90 a month, which is huge when it comes to making changes to our budget. That's not small thing at all! Plus we don't have a bunch of channels that we are paying for but never watching. We really only lost about four that we did watch. I lost my Hallmark and The Weather Channel but we actually found another app that supports those for pretty cheap a month so I don't miss out on my Christmas movies from Hallmark which I can't ever get enough of. We lost AMC which I only ever watch around Halloween for Fearfest anyway. And we lost Nick Jr which the kids would watch Paw Patrol but we have so many other options and they have been more into Scooby Doo lately anyway, so that's an okay loss as well.

So far we are loving it. We did end up getting the new Chromecasts with the remotes which has made a huge difference we absolutely love it. It was time for a change, especially to the budget and this was a good one.

I will say that I'm slightly overwhelmed because there are so many apps now and so many options but the Chromecast definitely helps make it easier to search if I don't know what I want to watch already.

There are things about every system that aren't perfect but overall we are really happy with the change.
