Emma Lynn: 23 Months

Dear Emma::

Well with this month we are a step away from you actually being two. I have no idea how that has happened so quickly but here we are regardless. Truthfully I can't get enough of you. You drive me up the wall and wear me out, but you are so cute and funny. You have such a big personality that can't be beat. You are definitely a fireball.

The biggest thing for you this month was that we moved you to your big girl bed which means we just took the side off your crib. I had been planning to wait until school was out next spring but you decided you didn't want to wait that long. I came in one day and found you with your leg up over the side and I was sure it wouldn't be long before you got yourself out. So we took the side off and put the gate on your door (we don't trust you to stay in your room yet), but by that evening you weren't having it. So we took the gate off and put the side back on. I was a bit relieved but that night you wouldn't settle. And one of the times we went in there to calm you down, we actually found you out of your crib, pulling your blanket through the bars. So the next morning we took the side back off because even though you did it very gracefully we didn't want you to get hurt, it was just safer. You are actually adjusting pretty well. We are definitely grateful for the gate because we have needed that, but overall you are doing well. You have fallen out a bed a few times so we had to roll up a towel and put it under you sheet and that seems to have fixed that problem.

The other big thing from this last month is how much talking you are doing. We are doing so well. Sometimes your first instinct is to just scream when you are frustrated but we are slowly getting there. You are repeating a ton more and talking independently so much more. I still think you are a bit behind where you should be but so was your brother at the same age and he caught up. You are making huge headway so I'm really happy about that.

You got to go trick-or-treating for the first time this last month. You love it. Last year you were too little and how no clue what was even happening but this year we dressed you in a Minnie Mouse dress and you had your own little bag. You loved it.

You are still so fearless. Nothing seems to phase you. Except for trains. We have some train tracks not too far from here and you really hate those. If a train goes by at just the wrong time during your sleep cycle, you will wake up screaming every single time. It's kind of awful. But hopefully you will out grow that soon enough.

You have definitely taken to hiding this month. More than once I have lost you in the house. Now that you can use doorknobs you could be anywhere. You often like to hide in Connor's closet behind his clothes, but sometimes you are just following me quietly behind me and I don't even know you are there. You really can be quite sneaky and quiet when you want to be.

We have definitely entered the realm of picky eating. It's a bit exhausting trying to get you to eat but you aren't starving so I guess you are somehow getting enough. It's definitely a meal time fight I wish we didn't have to have every single time.

You are definitely growing up so fast. You are so independent. You have your own thoughts and opinions. You love books. You have been playing with my old dollhouse a lot. You just like what you and you will let us all know when you don't like something. You have the best face expressions and your "old man" walk makes us crack up every time. We just can't get enough of you. You are truly amazing. I love you so much.

Love, Mama
