A Pregnancy Story: 11 Weeks

At just over 1-1/2 inches long you are about the size of a fig, and almost fully formed. You are
kicking, moving, and stretching gracefully now, but I won't be feeling anything for another month or two. You will start moving more and more as your body grows and develops. I also won't be feeling your hiccups for a while, your sister had a lot of hiccups pretty much all the time, for a while either even though your diaphragm is developing. You have a lot of other things developing as well like your hands opening and closing, your tooth buds appearing under your gums and your bones are beginning to harden.

I would really like to stop throwing up. I guess I should be thankful for having symptoms which helps ease my mind some but I really hate morning sickness. Lately my morning sickness are much closer to what they were like when I was pregnant the first time. Instead of nausea all day, I'm pretty much sick in the morning then I go on with my day. Of course I am pretty dang tired all the time. That never seem to get any better. Not to mention having to go to the bathroom every half hour or five minutes as it feels like I'm doing. I still have some serous aversions. Much to your father's dislike, pizza is topping the list. It's just too heavy for me right now. But then again nothing really sounds all that good ever.

Unfortunately my birthday fell during this week and it was less than a stellar day. I felt crummy all day long, not to mention your big sister was sick. And oy with the exhaustion. I haven't been sleeping well. And I definitely didn't the night before my birthday so it made for a long day. But I made it through the first day of the last year of my 20s to puke another day.

This week was my first regular OB appointment. I was definitely relieved when I was finally released from the RE to the OB, but nervous about losing out of being monitored quite as closely. Even though I was released after my 8 week scan from the RE, I couldn't get into the OB until I was 11 weeks. So I had to wait patiently to get checked again. At my office they don't ultrasounds at the office but every visit they do use the doppler to hear the heartbeat. So although I knew I wasn't going to see my baby I was going to be able to at least hear the heartbeat. I won't lie, I was nervous. There are a thousand things that can go wrong and every one of those things run through your mind, especially when you are pregnant after a lost.

So Thursday morning, Addison and I head over to the appointment. Rob agreed to meet me over at the OB visit because he knew that I was definitely nervous as we were rounding up the first trimester.  We go through the normal things including checking my urine for protein, weight check, and blood pressure. There is always a lot of information to go over on the first appointment so we went through everything. And finally the moment I was waiting for, finding the heartbeat. It took her a bit because the baby is so small but finally she found it. There was a good, strong heartbeat in the 160s. I seriously can't tell you how relieved I felt about hearing that beautiful heartbeat. Overall the appointment went well. It was long but it went amazing. Another major milestone passed.
