Addison Sophia: 34 Months

Dear Addie::

I have a hard time believing that you'll be three in just a couple of months. To me you are still my little girl who cuddles with me way less than you used to. Maybe you will always be my little girl. But the truth is that you are growing so fast. You are changing so much. Heck, just look at how much hair you have now compared to even a month ago.

Recently you went through a phase where you were afraid of the dark. We were constantly battling you with which lights to leave on during the night. However after only a week of being afraid, you quickly grew right back out of it and decided you weren't afraid after all so it was back to business as usual. Not to say that you went to bed willing at either bed time or nap time. You definitely have a stubborn streak in you, including about twenty minutes before bed time dumping out all your toys so you have to clean them up which you do really slowly. But in the end we always win. However, you do willing go to bed sometimes when you are really tired. You head right up before my timer even goes off for nap time and are ready to lay down. You have stopped sleeping at every single nap time although you really still do need the sleep. The majority of the time you are still napping but it happens on occasion when you just refuse to do anything but play or stand at the gate for two hours saying "mama."

Speaking of speaking, you have come so far. You are talking so much more. Recently you have taken to playing on the iPad which I let you do some days. You have some games that you love and you can repeat all the words back now. Your words are becoming so much clearer. You are still behind where you should be at this age but you are talking so much more and I love that. You are able to tell me what you want or just talk when you want to talk. Of course there is still a lot I don't understand, not because you aren't clear but because you aren't saying actual words, but everyday I can understand you a little bit more.

We went to the dentist for the first time this month. You were very not interested. Granted I wasn't crazy about who we went to either, but you wanted nothing to do with any of it. You enjoyed the waiting room quite a bit but you didn't want them to touch you or look at your teeth. Apparently, missy, we are going to have to break you of your habit of sucking your thumb because it's not good for your mouth. That's something I'm really not looking forward to.

You are still not potty trained although I'm not rushing you at all. You have developed more of an interest than you had before but still you just say no when I ask if you want to use the potty. You recently started using the sign for potty the few times you have sat down without your diaper on but mostly you don't understand why you are sitting there. I'm not going to push you into being potty trained although I'm looking forward to no more diapers. I'm going to let you lead and so far your interest is minimal.

You have really come so far in your little life. You are a little fighter and you just keep pressing forward. You are an awesome little girl and I'm lucky to be your mom. You stay sweet and amazing and don't change. I love you so much.

Love, Mama
