Number 142 on my life list was to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. After years of it hanging out on my life list, I can officially cross it off. For a long time I kept putting it off because I was thinking they would be similar to book written by Jane Austen or Mark Twain. But I have no idea what I was thinking because they were definitely not written in the same time. For that reason I wanted to wait until I had completed my Reading Challenge before I took on these books.
As it turns out when I started reading The Fellowship of the Ring, I got through it much faster than I ever expected. However after I finished the first book, I started struggling. By the time I got to the third one, I was pushing myself through it because I was ready to be done. There was a lot of narrative and I often got lost in the middle of it.
After conquering The Lord of the Rings for which I was really proud of myself, I took on The Hobbit. I actually was surprised by how easy this book was to read. Although it is the same world, it was a pretty different read from the trilogy. I got through it pretty quickly and enjoyed it over all.
Although I'm definitely glad to be done with it, I'm also very glad I read them. I will say with lot of certainty that I will never read them again. But at least I can say that I read them once in my life.
xo, B
