This year we were in Branson for Thanksgiving which meant I wasn't going to do any decorating the day we got back from our trip. I was exhausted, not to mention I got sick twice in the car on the way home. But the next day was free game.
I put Rob to work dragging out the Christmas stuff because this pregnant lady was not going to lugging the tree and all the trimmings up the stairs. But the man is a good sport and even helped decorate while we watched It's A Wonderful Life.
But no Christmas decorating story is easy for me. My first complaint as I tried to make our tree look like a tree. We are not a fresh tree kind of family. I hate the mess and it's just easier in my opinion. Last year we got a new tree because the old one was rusted and needed to find a new home in the trash. So of course I forgot how sparse this one looked compared to the old tree. I did my best to fill in the gaps and have it not look so sad.
I think I succeeded and started putting on the lights, which were new. We threw away the old lights last year when we bought a couple boxes last year after Christmas for really cheap. I started stringing the lights then quickly realized I had a big problem.
The new lights were great but we sure didn't have enough of them. And that's about when I was ready to give up. I sat on the couch dejected while that saint husband of mine problem solved.
He figured out a solution and promised me we would buy another box at the end of the year again so we don't run into the same problem next year. He even put the tinsel on the tree for me.
Then it was off hanging ornaments which Addison was itching to do. Other than a couple of more fragile ones that I hung at the top, Addison decorated the tree getting a little height-assist from the hubs.
Although it was definitely a rough start, the tree turned out pretty good.
As for me, I did a little other decorating.
But the tree is definitely my favorite. Addison gets excited every time she sees the tree. Christmas is definitely getting more fun the older she gets.
