of a pineapple. With your bones hardening and your wrinkled-skin smoothing out, you are definitely looking more like a baby and less like an alien. The bones in your skull aren't fused together yet, which is actually a good thing since that makes it easier to fit through the birth canal. Apparently those bones don't fully fuse together until adulthood, giving space for your brain to grow and other tissue to expand during childhood

In a twist I wasn't expecting, I had a bit of a scare. For just over a month now I have been having intense pain in my back and along my rib cage on my right side. Sometimes I can relieve the pain and other times it doesn't go away. But it wasn't something I had thought too much about but it something that I thought was just a result of everything being compressed. I did have a long baby after all. During my last appointment I was talking to my doctor and she said that I had a lot of protein in my urine this time. Protein in your urine can be a sign of preeclampsia when coupled with high blood pressure. However my blood pressure was nice and normal so that was at least good. We discussed that I needed to make sure I was drinking lots of water because that can help with that. But another sign of preeclampsia is pain in the very place I was having pain. So although she didn't think it was preeclampsia, she said it could come on very quickly and she wanted me to get some blood work done. The pain could be a result of some liver issues or my gallbladder or it could simply being a skeletal issue with everything moving. She told me what to watch out for and sent me for blood work which she would put a rush on to get back as quickly as possible. Luckily later that same day I got a call back that my labs came back completely normal. So now we are monitoring. My doctor told me that preelampsia can come on quickly and suddenly so we would need to be watching for the signs and they would be keeping a close eye on the protein in my urine and my blood pressure for the reminder of my pregnancy. Most likely the pain is just a skeletal issues thanks to a long baby moving everything around and putting pressure on my rib cage. I can deal with that pain for the next eight weeks, give or take, as long as we both stay otherwise healthy.
