Emma Lynn: 22 Months

Dear Emma:

Here we are again. Another month older. Another month that we have had the pleasure of knowing you. And it has certainly been a pleasure. You a remarkable girl. A fiery girl for sure.

We are slowly getting there but you are starting to talk more. It is mostly repeating and you are definitely still a bit behind, but I'm not too worried. You have two big siblings that like to do a lot of talking for you. Right now we are just trying to work on getting you to ask for help when you need it inside of just screaming. You definitely still scream first but we get your calmed down and asking for help. It's taking time, but baby steps. We are just trying to encourage you to talk and repeat as much as we can.

Lately you have not wanted to eat any of your meals. You have definitely figured out that we can't make you eat so don't. You just wait until snack time. But that has started to backfire on you lately because I have been making you finish your breakfast before you get a morning snack or eat whatever main thing you are having for lunch before you get chips. So we are going through some growing pains with eating but we'll get through them. I think your siblings went through the same stage at this same age, so I have no doubt that you will be just fine.

Since we have started walking again, you have been really loving it. It's been nice to get out and about, and right now we are doing three walks a day. At first you didn't love it because I was putting you in the stroller and you just wanted to walk but now you have gotten used to it. I tell you it's time for drop off or pick up and you race out the door - usually do a lap around the car - then get into the stroller. We are getting our routine down now.

Your favorite thing is definitely still books. You can't seem to get enough of them. You are always carrying around piles of books. There are book piles spread out all over this house. You definitely love the big, colorful pictures with some of your favorites being Pig the Pug and Balloon Farm. But you love them all. Lately you have been carrying this book everywhere that has your name and is about the North Pole Express because you can't get enough of it.

You are definitely all about being independent. You want to do everything by yourself and anything that the big kids do for themselves. And you work hard to problem solve when you have to. It's adorable but also very frustrating at times. Especially because sometimes you just get so frustrated yourself and you start screaming. We are working through finding the balance between you doing it yourself and also having help because you are only one and often need help.

You are definitely into everything. You climb. You hide. You have a fiery temper. You don't know how to deal with your frustration. You are just a lot. But I wouldn't have you any other way. You are amazing and beautiful. I can't imagine our family without you and all your awesomeness. I love you so much.

Love, Mama
