Keepin' It Fresh

We have accomplished another important and major step in the house buying process. First we bought the house. Then we had the inspection. And now we have bought the appliances. Okay, so maybe that's not that big of a step in the whole process, but this was definitely the first time I have ever bought a fridge and washer and dryer. So in my book it's major. We are in the final countdown now. We are just under a month by a couple days, which means we are just weeks away instead of months now. It's so close that I can almost taste it! And now I can keep whatever it is I'm tasting fresh because we have a nice new fridge to go into this amazing new house.

For the last couple of weeks every time we walked into somewhere with appliances we looked at them. And initially I told Rob that I was good with just the plain old freezer on top style. I wasn't too crazy about the French Doors because I never felt like you really got enough room out of the space. And I never considered the freezer on bottom setup. But as often happens, I changed my mind. And don't tell Rob but my mind changed as I watched some Rachael Ray videos online, and her fridge setup is such that the freezer is on bottom and the more I thought about it, the more I liked that setup. The other reason is that as of late I haven't been too crazy about bending over to get these out of the bottom of the fridge and since I use the fridge most often and the freezer less, it just started to make sense to switch the two.

So I fell in love. And we decided to go with the freezer on bottom and the French-door style top. And every time I looked at it in the store, I loved it even more. Yes, it was definitely going to cost more than just the old-fashion freezer on top style but we decided we could spend a little more on a nicer fridge that I wanted especially since I found a washer and dryer I loved for pretty cheap.

Speaking of the washer and dryer, I just want to ask a question regarding them. Has anyone else noticed that most washers and dryers look like they could launch a rocket into space lately? Seriously complicated. And I told Rob I didn't want to have to read the manual in order to figure out how to even open the door. Which is why I found a simple, yet nice Whirlpool brand that it easy to use, energy efficient, and had great customer reviews. Plus all that for a great price. Therefore, we come full circle and therefore spend more on the fridge. It's all so connected.

So today we decided to go and actually buy them and set them up for delivery on the 25th, so we would be all set to go and another thing could be checked off our list. The washer and dryer were no problem, but the fridge was another story. As it turned out, we couldn't get the fridge we wanted in black. So luckily they were willing to work with us some and find one similar but drop the price closer to the price of the one we actually one. We ended up with a bigger fridge (don't worry it will still fit in our spot in the new kitchen - it will just stick out more because it is deeper) but the price of the other smaller one. So a little frustration there, but it is all settled now and bought and paid for.

There was also a little confusion to where it all needed to be delivered and making sure it got to the right place because we forgot about it at first then remembered that we needed it delivered to the house and not the apartment. So we thought it got it changed but then we asked about the fulfillment address, which still had our old address, so it wasn't changed correctly. But finally we did get the change correctly - we think. So we figure when they call the day before to give us a four-hour time when they will be coming by the house to deliver we would confirm the address, just to be sure.

It's nice to have something else crossed off our list and it is pretty exciting getting a nice new fridge and of course we all know how excited I am about having our own washer and dryer. I may hate laundry but now I can do it from the comfort of my own home!
