Around the House

Things have been busy around the Evans household. In fact we have had a busy couple of months which makes me even happier I dialed down my blog schedule for the summer. We have been trying to get things done around the house, mostly little projects here and there.

+ I have been working on cleaning up the basement. I don't have a picture of what it looked like before but it was a disaster zone. You could barely walk into the basement storage area because there was so much stuff crammed in there. It became a drop zone of anything and everything. Although it is not completely fixed it is definitely better. You can at least walk in there now without things potentially falling on you or without tripping over a box and never being seen again.

+ We also got ourselves a nice big reading chair for the sitting room. Since we moved into the house I had been dreaming of an over-sized chair for our sitting room and finally we took the plunge and got one. I love it. Addie and I can both sit there comfortably and read books together. I can curl up with my own book. Honestly I can't remember the last time I sat on the couch in the sitting room, I love that chair so much.

+ I have been looking for a way to label my containers of baking goods in the pantry for some time. I tried one way but I hated the way it looked. But recently I came across some labels that I loved online, so I went for it. I haven't completely finished the project because my printer ran out of ink but so far I love how it has turned out. Along with the pantry labels I also got new spice containers (although I still need to get more) which will also be labeled on top. I recently moved my spices into a drawer which I loved but they were all labeled on the side which made finding the one I needed frustrating. But I love the new containers and as soon as I print out my spice labels I will love them even more!

+ After the whole dishwasher craziness, we never got around to replacing the thin piece of foam that went around the bottom edge of our railing. Rob decided to replace it all even though we only had to take up a small chunk but the problem was finding it first which we eventually did, then getting up the glue so we could put the new stuff down. Finally I spent a couple hours over two days getting up the glue using a knife and goo-be-gone. It took more time than I would have liked but it did work. Rob was finally able to put down the new stuff and after months, we are officially done in the kitchen with that project.

+ I mentioned this briefly in my anniversary post but we are working on our landscaping out in the front. It has been seriously lacking curb appeal for some time now and has been driving me crazy for a long time. We really haven't done anything to the area other than take out a thorny bush and put in a butterfly bush, which means it has been neglected for about 3 years. It was just so empty for such a long space. So finally we decided to do something about it. Although it still needs some work, it is so much better already. We still have a few more plans for the area directly in front of the house in regards to plants. And we plan to do a few other areas that we have that need some work. At least now I don't hate seeing our house when we drive up to it.

+ I put together a planter by our front door which I love. I was wanting something to add something a little on our little pouch and I love how it has turned out.

There are still about a thousand little (and some big) projects that we want to do around the house but getting some crossed off the list is always a good feeling.

xo, B
