Emma Lynn: 17 Months

Dear Emma:

You are quite the girl. Just when I think I got things under control you learn a new skill that throw me off completely. But you are amazing and wonderful and such a light for us. I can't say enough amazing things about you and all that you are.

Lately you are all about coloring. You love to color. Of course the downside is that you love to color everything so we are having to learn what is okay to color now and what is not okay to color on. It's really quite exhausting. But when you are actually coloring on the right thing, you love it. It also seems that you are right-handed. Supposedly you don't know that for sure until you are a little older, but I'm feeling pretty sure you take after you mother on this one.

You also seem to be a bit of a mama's girl these days. You always give your dad such big hugs but still you come sit by me. Or rather you actually sit on me. You do love to sit on me or something you are fine with just repeating hitting my right arm over and over again in all your moving about which makes it basically impossible to do anything when you are around. I can also be sitting there doing nothing and you will be completely ignoring me but the moment I pull out anything to do, you immediately come over and start getting into things and sitting on me. You definitely don't like when I do anything else.

You are in the phase where you are into everything. You open cabinets you don't need to be into. You make so many messes. You are also barging your way into rooms or trying to get out doors. You aren't big into eating actual meals with us (you love yourself some snacking) but you sure do love dropping food all over the floor. I spend a good amount of time cleaning up in your wake and yet the house is always a mess.

But you are so funny. You march around the house with your hands around your back or swinging your arms so causally. You spend an odd amount of time doing down-dog and watching the world upside down. You are starting to talk but mostly it's still all gibberish which means I have no clue what you are telling me. But you are telling me passionately, which means this is the only time I will ever thing you sassing me back is funny. You are obsessed with your blanket and carry it everything with you. You just have so much personality and you aren't afraid to show any of it.

Unfortunately you have also started throwing temper tantrums. Those have been less fun to deal with but you are starting to get your own ideas about things and you just want things to always go the way you want it, which of course isn't realistic. It can make it really hard to deal with sometimes but we are limping through those fits. You definitely hate the word 'no' which you hear a lot these days but that goes back to you getting into everything. It doesn't help that you have been extra cranky. You haven't been feeling very good with what we think are just allergies, plus you are getting some of your last teeth in. It's been a tough combination for this last month for sure.

But we all love you so much. You make us all laugh on a regular basis. You are curious about everything and love playing. You adore your big siblings and love to try to follow in their footsteps. Everyday is an adventure with you and I adore every single one of those. I love you so much, M&M.

Love, Mama
