Stay at Home School: Week 7 & 8

We are finally wrapping up this series here with this post. I am sincerely hope this is for good. This week that we are currently is our last week of school and I'm not sure I will be doing a post about this week because we can't quite do our regular activities due to other things we have going on this week. However we are doing a fun big science experiment to end the week then I'm going to be taking some time off from activities for a bit before we do a few things here and there during the summer.

Week 7
This week was cheesecake week. We have been trying to bake different things each week and this week was apparently cheesecake week. We went with Strawberry Cheesecake Bars and they were seriously delicious.

We also had a bonus where the kids drew pictures for their teachers for teacher appreciation week. They jumped all over and then we emailed them the pictures. It wasn't quite the same as being able to give them the pictures but it was the best we could do given the situation. And the teachers loved the pictures all the same.

This week for science we had a slightly different kind of experiment. We turned milk into plastic. It kind of worked and was pretty cool. We basically used a cup of milk, heated it then added in some vinegar. It then made some clumps and we were able to form them using cookie cutters then let them dry. It turned out kind of cool, although it wasn't exactly a favorite science experiment we have done so far.

We then ended the week with our art project. We did bubble art this week. We put paint, a squirt of dish soap and water in cups then mixed them up. I then used straws (which I punch a hole in the top so they couldn't accidentally suck up any paint) and then let them go to town. They would blow bubbles in the cup until the bubbles came up over the top then they would lightly put their paper on top and it would leave light bubble prints. It didn't work great because my paint wasn't the best paint but it still worked some. Connor also only stayed focused for a bit before he just wanted to blow bubbles then pop bubbles. Addie however was all about it and her papers turned out pretty cool.

Week 8
We started off this week with the longest baking project known to mankind. Okay so it didn't really take too long but it was about an hour and it felt so much longer. We definitely got the end of the year blues going on. We made Oreo Cupcakes this week and they are good - too sweet for me - but man it took awhile to actually make them and a ton of dishes.

I think I really hit the crazy button with the science this week. I saw this thing about making silly putty and I thought the kids would love it. You combine cornstarch with dish soap. Well we actually ended up making slime and boy did I have a mess on my hands. I will say that we did eventually get it to silly putty but it took a bit. The kids had a blast. And I had a huge mess. A really really big mess.

And to end our week we did some watercolor crumbled art. So basically you crumble up a piece of paper then use paints or in our case watercolor to paint whatever you see then you smooth it back out and do it again in different areas. The kids have very much enjoyed watercoloring before and crumble things is right up Connor's alley. He really enjoyed it and even ran right up to Rob when he was done and gave it to him because he was so proud.

And that was our last two weeks. This week is officially our last week of school which is hard to believe we are finally here. It has been a heck of a nine weeks and I could definitely use a break (as could the kids). But we did indeed make it!
