The Day the Apartment Flooded - Part Two

When I wrote the original The Day the Apartment Flooded, I had no intention of writing a part two. I had just hoped it would all be taken care of quickly and it would all be behind us. But does anything really work like that? It's Murphy's Law that nothing is as easy as it seems. And everything takes longer than you think. It's just the way of it.

Let's see, where did I leave off this story? Oh right, the apartment was a total mess. They had rearranged our furniture and were finishing the clean-up progress. Well, part of the clean up progress is to dry out the place. When I got home, there was a fan called 'Tornado' sitting in the living room. Let me just say that there is nothing quiet about a fan named 'Tornado' as you can probably guess. It's designed to blow directly on the floor so you can imagine Stella's fear of it as she is at the perfect height to get a face-full of powerful air every time she walks past. Then they brought along the biggest dehumidifier I had ever seen that was supposed to run constantly for the next two days - which of course turned into the next three or four days. So between those two powerful pieces of equipment, we couldn't stand to be in our own living room where we had to yell in order to talk to each other. Not to mention that they were running non-stop, anyone else wondering about our electricity bill? Yeah, us too.

But for what felt like forever, we've dealt with our living room without a ceiling and things pushed to the side. It's a pretty crappy way to live in your own apartment. But we had high hopes it would get taken care of quickly. And one week after the disaster, we are finding our ceiling being patched. Unfortunately the cleanliness (I'm pretending the apartment was clean in the first place for a minute) and order has been sacrificed. Not that that's a big surprise. It's better they cover everything than let everything get dry-wall all over it. We just happen to look like a quarantine area currently.

At least our stuff is protected right, but still. Kinda sucky to come home too. You work hard (hmm, well Rob works hard) all day at work then you walk in to this mess. I know, I'm happy that it's finally getting fixed. That's good. That's excellent. But still. I was less than pleased about finding my cat cowering in the living room window and the front door wide open however. We figured she got herself backed into a corner and couldn't run away to hide in time. I took her with me to the bedroom when I got home, where she immediately went to cowering under the bed. She was never going to run out the door because she was so terrified. But just in case she suddenly decided she was brave, I could see her dart out of the room instead of having no clue where she was. Just puts mama's mind at ease. Because darn it, I like that cat.

I was talking about something....oh yes, the apartment. The ceiling. The huge horrible mess that has taken over the whole front half of my apartment. Well, it's been a week since this all happened. And now I can finally and happily report that we have a ceiling again.

They even painted it and sprayed it with the popcorn stuff or whatever it is they do today. There is a couple spots that still needs to be repainted from water damage right by the fan, but they told me they'll come back to do that. It's less of an immediate situation, as much as getting our ceiling back. I'm just looking forward to getting back to normal. Hopefully, things will now settle down and we can return to our normal, mostly quiet, simple life we like to lead here in our water-flooding (due to the upstairs neighbors), smoke-filling (due to the downstairs neighbors) second-floor apartment.

But right now I'm just going to enjoy the peace and quiet. This Thursday has gone much better than last Thursday, I must say.
