A Pregnancy Story: 17 Weeks

You are now about 5 ounces and 5 inches long from head to bottom, so you are weight about the
same as a turnip. Your skeleton is changing to bone from soft cartilage. You are able to move your joints, your umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker, and your sweat glands are starting to develop. You are getting some meat on those bones putting on some fat.

Nothing much has happened this week. I did learn that going grocery shopping while pregnant is a terrible idea. I have to stop myself  from buying things because everything looks delicious and I'm hungry all the time. The good news is that I'm gaining about a pound every two weeks. I'm not sure if I should be gaining more than that, but right now I'm pleased with that. I'm sure it will increase even more because I'm not getting sick anymore and I'm eating all the time. If I'm not eating then I'm definitely sleeping. I have been super tired. I was hoping that I would get a little more energy back in the second trimester and I have to a point just because I'm feeling better but I'm still exhausted. Some of it probably has to do with the fact that I'm not sleeping well at night. Overall I'm definitely feeling much better. My little bump is growing because you just keep growing in there. I'm all about the elastic waist maternity pants these days. Mostly I'm super excited about finding out if you are a boy or a girl next week.

I'm not going to lie, maternity clothes shopping is stressful. When I was pregnant with Addison I was pregnant through the summer so it was a lot of shorts and tank tops. But now I'll be pregnant through the winter which means I have to find long pants and some winter clothes. But I'm not in the business of buying a ton of clothes for a ton of money because I won't be able to wear these clothes past pregnancy. But much like last time I have struggled to find pants. Because I have a long inseam I need talls which are sometimes hard to come back with maternity pants. My options for the most part seem to be limited to fancy work pants, which aren't practical since I'm a stay-at-home mom or buy at least a hundred dollars for a pair of pants which isn't an idea I'm crazy about doing for non-maternity pants. I did finally find some pants at Old Navy which didn't cost me my life-savings and are long enough. But my new problem lately has been shirts. Some of my regular shirts are already not working because they are too short even with my tiny bump. So I have been searching for some maternity shirts but every maternity shirt I have found are much too baggy around my shoulders. Nothing I have found has fit me right. I'm still working on finding shirts that I feel comfortable in and fit me right. I was hoping my maternity clothes shopping woes were behind me, especially since I finally found some pants I love, but apparently it just continues. So I guess I'll just have to keep shopping.
