She was due December 23, but I was set to be induced December 16 because of gestational diabetes but she came a week before that at 38 weeks. It was honestly a tough pregnancy even though she is my little miracle pregnancy. Right before I got pregnant with her, I had had another miscarriage and we weren't sure we were going to be able to have a third baby. We weren't interested in going back for fertility treatments like we did with Connor but we weren't ready to give up yet. So we just decided to let whatever happened, happen. And the next cycle after that miscarriage I got pregnant with Emma.
Like I said it was a tough pregnancy but I made it through and she was a tough little nugget. And on the evening of December 8 I started having contractions while watching Iron Chef America and before I knew it, I was waking up Rob, taking a shower, waking up the kids and heading for the hospital. We were all surprised to find I was already 8cm dilated and with no time for an epidural, Emma came into the world all natural and gorgeous.
And it has been a heck of a ride with her for the last 38 weeks. She was a trooper as we walked through the cold winter to take Addison to school in the baby wearer inside my heavy coat. She never made a peep the rest of the year and I even had people asking me if she ever cried. She moved to the stroller by spring and loved going on our daily walks, happy as can be. We were definitely starting to see that she was so happy all the time. She was just so go-with-the-flow.
We struggled with our schedule through the summer but somehow she still slept through the night and continued to gain weight - however she is my smallest baby but just as long. Even now I still get constant compliments about how perfectly shaped her head is and how bright her eyes are. Then Emma smiles and that person is a goner. I also get a fair amount of compliments about her silly sloth, Speedy, that goes everywhere with us, which I find quite funny.
And now here we are at 38 weeks. And spoiler alert, she's crawling. She's curious about everything and now she can get herself to whatever it is and check it out for herself. She is eating like a champ now with all her purees, although she is still unsure about yogurt melts or puffs but we'll get there.
It's just so hard to believe she has been around for 38 weeks now. She is a champ and beautiful. She is funny - you watch her bounce herself around the room and you'll be giggling too. She's just so happy all the time and I can't get enough of her.
