Emma Lynn: 15 Months

Dear Emma:

You are something else, love. It's has been quite a month with you. Although you haven't hit a ton of major milestones but you have definitely been busy. But then again you are always busy.

For awhile now, you have been going through another wonder week and it's definitely like having a different kid. You have been pretty clingy lately. If I am not within reaching distance than I'm too far away which leads to a lot of whining and crying. You are still pretty happy most of the time but you like being right on top of me. And often that actually means literally right on top of sitting anywhere on me that you can.

When you aren't sitting on me, you are not playing with toys. I wish you were playing with toys but mostly you are just getting into trouble. You are always getting into everything that you aren't supposed to be into it. You are a big fan of the stairs. I spend way too much time chasing you away from the stairs, so I put up a makeshift gate. It seems to be working, although sometimes you do try to get up the stairs anyway. You can climb the stairs like a pro but you are terrible with going down, so it just makes me too nervous. The stairs are just a fun game to you which makes it hard to get you to understand how it isn't safe. The other thing that you love to play with that you shouldn't is the trash. It's really more of the recycling, but you are always pulling out bottles and cans, so our trash cans now live on our kitchen chairs. And that is also why we call you 'trash panda' which will respond to.

The saddest part of this last month was that you have officially dropped your morning nap. Some days it seems like you could still use one but you don't want them anymore, so I finally gave up. The trade off is that you are taking a pretty good afternoon nap which are you always ready for each day. The only other semi-negative thing is that you aren't big on talking yet. I haven't been too worried because you have two big siblings who like to talk for you and it's hard to get a word in with them around making so much noise. But you really just don't talk much. I have been trying to encourage sign language at least but you haven't been doing much of that either. We'll figure it out, but it's been slowly going.

What isn't slowing going is your understanding. You definitely seem to be able to put things to together. I can tell you something like we have to go pick up your brother or sister and you head toward the garage door. The other day I caught you stealing your dad's headphones, so I told you to put it back and sure enough you did. I also tell you it's naptime, so you grab your blanket and head for the stairs. You seem to understand things, you just don't always like to listen or follow those directions.

Otherwise you are doing great. You are eating like a champ, although you do love snacking more than actually eating meals. Lately I have found that I've had to change up your breakfast because you just haven't been so interested in what I was giving you. We are still figuring it all out. But for the most part you eat just about anything

You are such an amazing girl though. You are happy. You are getting faster on your feet. You make us laugh daily. There just aren't enough amazing words out there to use to describe you. I love you so much.

Love, Mama
