Last Week

I don't know about you but in the last couple of weeks I have felt like I have been sucker punched a few times in the gut. It was a normal Thursday with Addie going back to school the next day for the last day before spring break then suddenly she wasn't going back. Then spring break we found out they wouldn't be returning until two weeks after spring break. Then the next day the governor announced school buildings were being closed for the rest of the year. I'm not going to lie that really threw me off.

Then suddenly Rob is working from home for a few weeks which then turned into at least the next month when we were issued a stay at home order. So basically we are just over two weeks since this all started and we have barely left the house. We go for frequent walks but that's about it. We are just hunkering down and riding out the store. Rob does my grocery run for me each week which is stressful because we have no idea what will be there week to week (although we are hoping it has finally settled down and normalized some in that regard). But otherwise we don't leave the house. We are just staying home and riding out the storm.

But taking on my entire family full time was not exactly what I was expecting this spring. And it hasn't always been easy. The kids were really sad to find out they weren't returning to school, church, dance or any fun activity that comes with the end of the school year. Addie is sad to not get to see her friends until next August. Connor just doesn't understand and wants to see his teacher. It's not been easy.

But last week we started limping our way into a new normal. Although we didn't have anything from the school yet about how the rest of the year was going to look, I decided to start doing some "school" with the kids each day. We aim for no more than two hours and a combination of apps on the iPads, workbooks, The Magic School Bus, reading out loud, a science project or some baking. And truthfully it all worked pretty well considering.

Overall last week actually went better than I thought, although it is exhausting having such a curve ball thrown at me. But we are going to limp our way through the rest of this school year into summer and hope this all passes soon.

How do your days look these days?
