Merry & Bright: Christmas Decor

It is that time again where the our house is all decorated, but this time it's for Christmas. I showed off our Halloween decorations in October (check it out here). But this time the house is all ready for Christmas, which is fun although I will admit that the day after Christmas I'm usually ready to have everything back to normal. But I haven't yet grown tired of the decorations. This year they are just making me happy.

So I had recently decked out our somewhat useless counter that I never knew what to do with and I loved our every day decor, but I knew I wanted it decorated for Christmas this year. I ended up having to buy all the Christmas decorations for that counter because I didn't have anything at all. All of the stuff came from Target and they are all super cute. I definitely love all the elements.

The table is definitely the most lacking of locations but since I had that little vase of colorful ornaments I just bought those little five dollar trees and called it good this year. I'm going to keep looking for future years, but I'm not sure what I want to put on this gorgeous table (in case you missed it, my dad built this table for us and we got it a couple weeks ago and we love it so much!).

The rest of our decorations pretty much have it all together. I got all the stuff for the mantel last year and still love it this year. The only new thing up there is the Dress Blue Nutcracker. I have been wanting a Marine Nutcracker for awhile now so I'm definitely excited to finally have one with our decorations. He's mighty handsome up there.

Our tree is a bit lacking this year too because a few days one of the strands of lights went out leaving some huge unlit spots in the tree, but whatever. It is what it is. I will say that I always admire those people with well decorated and coordinated trees but the truth is that we will have have one of those trees. Plus it's kind of nice to have our family ornaments up there. Maybe if we finish the basement one day we will put one down there and have one of the trees all put together. But for now I'm happy with our very family tree - I just wish the lights hadn't gone out.

For Halloween I got some fun pillow covers for the living room, so I knew I had to do that for Christmas. And these are just so dang cute. I actually got these from Amazon and I love them. The kids adore them and they are just fun.

So there you have it. That's how the house looks. My wishlist for next year is a better centerpiece for the table, some more things for outside (all we have now is lights around the house and an inflatable Mickey), and maybe all the light strands working on the tree. But for now, for this year, all these Christmas decorations make me happy so I'll take it.

The Two Year Comparison

Is it just me or is Connor very baby-faced compared to the girls?

Emma has more hair than Addie, but they do look a lot alike this month. I don't really see it so much in Connor, although his little cheeks are killing me. These are always so interesting because they change so much and sometimes look just the same and other times not look alike at all. This time it seems to be babyface Connor who is the stand-alone here.

It's just hard to believe that Emma is actually two. She is just growing too fast!

A Year of Emma

Emma Lynn: 2 Years

Dear Emma:

My beautiful girl, it's hard to believe that you are actually two! Time just continues to race by and you are growing too fast. It feels like you just turned one but here you are, two years old already.

You are doing so much talking these days. Your first instinct is to cry still but we are definitely making huge progress. You have figured out that just saying "please" goes a long way and that at least we know you want something. Sometimes the figuring out what you want is a different story but we are getting there slowly. You are doing so much repeating and just trying to tell us whatever is on your mind. And you definitely have plenty on your mind.

You are also pretty fearless. I definitely wish you had more fear because I have plenty of fear for both of us. You are always climbing and jumping and just doing without thinking. The only thing that does seem to scare you is the train that you can you hear at night while you are trying to sleep. Other than that you definitely leap before you look.

About a month ago we took the rocking chair out of your room and put my old dollhouse in your room in its place and you are obsessed with the dollhouse, especially the people. You are constantly carrying around the people everywhere to the point where I ended up giving you a bag to put them in because you just didn't have enough hands. So now before you leave a room, you ask for your bag to make sure they travel with you. You have also been into cars lately. I brought up the old parking garage from downstairs and you have been getting plenty of play time with that.

Your other favorite thing lately is this wooden Radio Flyer push trike. We have it on our main floor and you easily ride that every day constantly, just going around in circles. You get yourself going really fast then pick up your feet and coast for as long as you can. You are definitely obsessed. Other favorites continue to be blanket and Speedy (the sloth). You are also pretty obsessed with Bluey and lately Scooby Doo, although I think you only love Scooby because your brother and sister love it so much so it's on a lot. One of these days you'll watch a Disney princess movie.

Lately we have just been up to much of the same. We don't go a lot of places but we do go for our daily walks for school drop off and pick up. You are pretty content. I get asked often if you are ever unhappy, because you just ride along and are never not happy to be there no matter how cold and rainy it might be. Sometimes when we drop off Connor while we are walking in front of the school you start calling for Addie because you know she's in there somewhere.

You wear me out completely. You keep me on my toes and keep things a bit more lively than I would like sometimes. But I wouldn't change you for the world. You have so much personality. You have so much life, so much energy. You make every day so much better for just existing. I can't wait to see what the next year brings. I love you so much, M&M.

Love, Mama

A Day in the Life: 8.2 Year, 4.10 Year & 2 Year Edition

 5:00 -- Rise. Shine. Exercise.

5:34 -- I head upstairs to shower. I'm already dragging a bit and my head hurts again.

5:53 -- I want to crawl back into bed but I need all the work time I can get with my Black Friday weekend sale orders to do.

6:30 -- I head back upstairs to finish getting ready because like it or not the day is going to start soon.

7:00 -- Time stops for no man - time to get the kids up

7:16 -- Breakfast time. These days they are having French Toast stickers, bacon, bananas and go-gurts.

7:40 -- Brush teeth. Start laundry. Shoes on.

7:52 -- Time to go!

8:10 -- Home again and a bit colder for it. I have a small bit of zone cleaning to do now.

8:20 -- It didn't take long. Emma is finishing her breakfast while Connor plays Lego.

8:40 -- Scoob!

9:40 -- Snack time!

10:10 -- Movie is over so play time.

11:30 -- Lunch time. Emma has chicken nuggets while Connor has mini corn dogs. They both have some fruit, raisins and cheese.

12:15 --Time for drop off number two!

12:33 -- Home again. Emma and I head upstairs to read some books before nap time.

12:47 -- Emma is down so I go back to those orders.

3:12 -- Emma is awake and now we have to get ready for pick up.

3:22 -- We head out the door for pick up.

3:50 -- Home again.

4:03 -- Facetime. Every Thursday we facetime with my parents and the kids love it.

5:05 -- We are done facetiming and I get dinner started.

5:29 -- Dinner time. We are having Smoked Sausage with Cheesy Orzo with crescents.

5:44 -- Also every Thursday Rob gives me a night for time to myself while he gets solo time with the kids. I go upstairs to do whatever I want, leaving them watching earth from the International Space Station.

I even get the night off from getting them ready for bed as well. But it's about the same as the last time I did one of these. I did still listen to Addie read her book while Rob got Connor and Emma taken care of however.

7:57 -- Emma is down

8:16 -- Connor is down

8:20 -- Addie is down now too.

And I went to bed about 9:30 so that was pretty much it for me that night. I was tired. This was a week of getting back into routine after having several days off for Thanksgiving. So that's how our day went.

Every Day Conversations: Part XX

Full disclosure this is a very Connor-centric one because that boy is pretty dang funny right now!

 "Oh pardon me, grass." -Connor

"I love you and I'm going to eat you." -Connor to his brownie

"Addie, Connor, do you want Papa John's or Pizza Hut?" - Rob
"What do we want from Pizza Hut?" -Addie
"I want pizza!" - Connor

"I'm zooming this way now." -Connor

Connor walking into the room where Rob was working.
"Well, well, well." - Rob
"I'm not here to talk to you. I'm just looking for the sword." -Connor

"Help. I don't want to ride my scooter anymore!" -Connor, then he takes off running

1:44 in the morning, sitting outside
"Why did someone turn the moon on?" -Connor

"Iron man. Iron man. Does whatever an iron can." -Connor, singing to the tune of Spider-Man

"Connor, don't spoil it!" -Addie
"I'm not!" - Connor
"Spoiling means you are telling what happens!" - Addie
"Oh then yea. Sorry about that." -Connor

Nanowrimo 2020: Week 4

Day Twenty-Three

I got through quite a few words today but honestly it was a struggle. I don't really have much to say about it other than I am so close!

Word Count: 48,150

Day Twenty-Four

I did it! I somehow got my last few words down and I feel awesome. I am so excited to actually be done. It is far from a work of art and probably should never actually see the light of day but I'm pretty happy with himself for actually finishing it and having another year behind me!
